Out There... A look back at 2009
Great Yarmouth 19th - 20th September, 2009
Out There 2009 saw two incredible days bringing the very best international street arts and circus entertainment to the heart of Yarmouth. Now the region's largest free street arts festival, an estimated 50,000 people enjoyed a range of wild, wacky and 'out there' events over two glorious days. We were delighted with the turn-out and the crowds enjoyed the variety and spectacle of a host of acts including amazing high wire shows, a life-size inflatable whale, and even a half-naked chef!
Involving more than 30 professional acts, 90 performances and 600 performers, this year's festival was bigger, brighter and bolder than 2008. Our work with international partners, through the ZEPA programme, bore fruit in the form of many of the continent's finest exponents including French company Les 3 Points De Suspension bringing their extraordinary stunt-filled show to the UK for the first time as well as Lithuanian contemporary dance company, Aura and three dazzling Dutch dinosaurs plus much, much more!
But Out There is also about celebration and participation and the crowds were able to get involved and try things for themselves with a range of workshops in urban dance, vjing and cow modeling! More than 350 people took part in the Musical Masquerade, showcasing a host of amazing carnival creations to launch the festival, while 750 people took part in the workshops, in the run up to the festival.
We're already looking forward to the 2010 festival, which will again be focused around St. Georges Park. Dates are set for Friday 17 to Sunday 19 September. We hope you'll join us again in 2010 as we go Out There... watch this space!
